England Selectors Say Crap Weather May Miss Second Test.
Following their humiliating defeat in the first test match at Lords, chairman of the English selection committee, David Graveney, says that Crap Weather may be benched for the second test at Edgbaston.
"The entire squad is extremely disappointed" said Graveney "and while it's unfair to fix the blame solely on one player, it has to be said that the weather didn't do us any favours. Obviously we were hopping for two days solid rain, but for it to rain only for five hours on day four just wasn't good enough I'm afraid. We thought he might bat on but by 3:45 he was out and we were back on the park which gave the Aussies ample time to polish us off. What's most disappointing is that our pre-match preparations were based around two or three days rain when we needed it, we were even promised a full five days if necessary. We should've had the draw. We deserved it."
I pointed out to Graveney that his side were still 264 runs behind with only 5 wickets left when the rain started and if he thought the poor performance of the English batsmen contributed to the defeat he flatly denied this saying “the rest of the side performed very well, I mean if you look at the top order in the first innings they scored 4,2,3 and 6 which are very positive numbers, numerologically speaking, I went right down the newsagent and put them straight on lotto. Very positive. But let's just say we'll be looking for more ducks at Edgbaston, preferably swimming around the pavilion end, if you get my drift.”
